Kyle Shepherd Trio to play at Wits
JOHANNESBURG – Fresh from a Canadian tour, the Kyle Shepherd Trio will head out to perform in Mozambique, Botswana and a few major cities across South Africa.
The band consists of leader Kyle Shepherd on piano, Shane Cooper on bass and Jonno Sweetman on drums. The inventive trio has already captured audiences across the country and the world, thanks to their rich repertoire of original songs.
Shepherd is also a South African who has scooped a number of awards, including the Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year Award in the jazz category last year.
Peter Hum from The Ottawa Citizen newspaper in Canada said, “Much of Shepherd’s concert found him. Bassist Shane Cooper and drummer Jonno Sweetman explore a more craggy and contemporary musical turf, and successfully so.”
