ROSEBANK – Music lovers from all walks of life across Africa are in for a sublime treat with the 12th annual Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition set to take place from 9 to 12 September.

Beats will resonate from Auckland Park to Newtown to Braamfontein in what is being referred to as the premier music industry event in Africa.

At the media launch held at Primi Piatti in The Zone in Rosebank, organisers unveiled an exciting proposal on how it plans to celebrate 12 years since its inception with the theme, From Kwela to Hop: The great South African Songbook. There will be two concerts and three festivals, one of which will be a free, open air festival taking place at the Market Theatre in Braamfontein. The inaugural Moshito Festival will be held at Newtown Park.

Organisers are aiming for this conference to be unequivocal in its intention to occupy Joburg through music in public spaces, which will include club gigs in Braamfontein like the Bannister Hotel and the Great Dane, as well as Ragga Nights hosted by African Storm at Bassline in Newtown.

Chairperson of Moshito, Sipho Sithole, beamed with excitement about the upcoming event, which he feels will offer more opportunities for musicians and artists to showcase their talent in front of a more diverse audience, talent scouts and music promoters from around the world who were specifically invited by Moshito organisers.

“Moshito 2015 is an important milestone since its inception, and the conference will recognise those important instances that carved the cultural and musical landscape of this country,” said Sithole.

“We want to benefit those musicians that defined the narrative of our musical heritage.”

Carrying this year’s Moshito theme as ambassadors will be the legendary flute player, Lemmy ‘Special’ Mabaso and South African hip-hop pioneer and founder of the band Black Noise, Emile ‘YX?’ Jansen.
