Evening of magical song and dance

JOBURG - THE Union of Jewish Women’s Divas in Concert 4, held on 10 June at the Victory Theatre, was produced by Jonathan Birin and directed by Vicky Friedman.

The concert incorporated song and dance which made the evening an outstanding, top-class and magical event. The performance, which has been mesmerising audiences, was yet again a huge success.

It was a great opportunity for the audience to watch some of South Africa’s top entertainers sharing the stage, and at the same time contributing to the Union of Jewish Women and its great causes.

Prior to the start of the show, the audience watched a DVD outlining the work union in Johannesburg has done for the Jewish and wider communities.

The Honey a capella girl group, finalists in SA’s Got Talent, had the audience spellbound with their perfect pitch. Lindiwe Bungane, winner of a Naledi Award for Dreamgirls, had everyone shouting, whistling and clapping for more. Carly Graeme from We Will Rock You and Starlight Express was sensational. Sivan Raphaely who was a huge hit in Rent and We Will Rock You, also wowed the crowd.

Sharon Speigel-Wagner, who captivated audiences in Grease and The Rocky Horror Show; the charming Naami Gottlieb Lieberman; and composer and arranger for From the Mouths of Babes all had the audience at the edge of their seats. The exciting Lorri Strauss of High School Musical; Vicky Friedman, ultra-professional from Chicago; Grease’s lovely Natasha Millar; and Naledi Award winner, Harry Sideropoulos had the audience fired up and calling for more.

The theatre was filled with excitement, laughter and enjoyment, and the delight of the audience was palpable as they applauded and cheered the performances by a group of highly-talented, professional and entertaining women, and one man.

Proceeds from this event went to the various projects of the Union of Jewish Women in Johannesburg. The union offered its sincere thanks to everyone involved in ensuring the success of the event, and to all the sponsors for their generous donations.
