Russel Brand on two-city SA tour

JOBURG - Comedian and actor, Russell Brand brings his Trew World Order standup comedy show to South Africa for a three-day, two-city tour.

“We are pleased to announce that Russell Brand will be in South Africa this October for what is going to be an exciting and interesting tour,” said director of Showtime Management, Tony Feldman.

The multi-talented star made famous for his role in the movies Arthur and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and infamous for requesting a divorce from songbird Katy Perry via SMS, has been described by Time Out Magazine as “the most exciting comedian of his generation”.

Russell, who has also written a number of best-selling books, produces his own YouTube web series called The Trews which is uploaded every weekday. The channel has surpassed one million subscribers, and in April this year, posted its 300th episode.

“Yes, that’s right. We are all individuals,” said Brand.

“We’ve been told freedom is the freedom to fulfil our petty desires, but Trew freedom is freedom from our petty desires.”

After a life of individualism and showing off, ruining broadcasting corporations and elections, Brand has decided the only way to change the world is to be a part of the crowd.

“Collectively, as a crowd, a horde, a mob we can change the world,” he said.

The sometimes unorthodox comedian doesn’t hold anything back from his audience – a trait that has made him especially popular in the comedy industry.

Booking for the Trew World Order SA tour opened to the public on 11 June at Computicket.
