Oliver Twist, by children for children

PARKTOWN - An adaptation for young audiences from the classic novel, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, will be recreated at the National Children’s Theatre on 8 June.

The play tells of a young orphan’s quest to find a home and family in Victorian London.

This adaptation will not only entertain, but also draw the audience into a timeless drama exposing the social inequalities of the times.

In this 90-minute play you will be able to follow the journey of a boy from an orphanage to Fagin’s Den where he meets the Artful Dodger, Nancy and other homeless boys and girls who make up Fagin’s gang. In the midst of child exploitation, corruption and degradation, the main character remains pure hearted.

The show is directed by Francois Theron with musical supervision by Rowan Bakker. The cast members are supported by talented children from NCT Workshops alternating different roles.

Oliver Twist will run from 8 June to 19 July, Monday to Saturday during school term and Tuesday to Sunday during school holidays at the National Children’s Theatre in Parktown.

Tours can be arranged for schools during the school term and booking ahead is essential.
