Get your groove on at The Edge

WAVERLEY - The fourth Gauteng Big Band Jazz Festival is calling on all jazz lovers to come and enjoy feet tapping to big band jazz musicians on stage.

The festival, which is supported by the Samro Foundation, has grown by leaps and bounds in reputation and stature since it began in 2012.

Audiences are invited to come and enjoy the sweet sounds of youth jazz bands over the weekend of 15 and 16 May at The Edge, St Mary’s School.

The festival will have a number of schools participating in the festival over the two days. The St Mary’s Waverley Senior Jazz Band, which is part of the school’s jazz band programme, aims to foster a love of jazz among pupils while teaching the girls valuable music skills. St John’s College Big Band conducted by Jan Lategan, Pretoria Boy’s High Big Band, Cornwall Hill College Big Band and Tshwane University of Technology Big Band will play on 15 May.

Pridwin P’zazz Jazz Band, Saxes of Note from Stithians Girls’ College, St Alban’s College Band, Johannesburg Youth Jazz Ensemble and Tshwane University of Technology Big Band will perform on 16 May.

Andre le Roux, executive general manager of the Samro Foundation, says: “It’s an honour to once again be part of this important initiative to cultivate a love and appreciation of jazz music in young South African musicians. As an event committed to cultural diversity while providing exceptional entertainment, the Gauteng Big Band Jazz Festival is destined for great things.”

Bookings can be made through Computicket.
