According to one of the organisers, Fairchild Phiri, the national hip-hop dance competition was established in 2006.

“The South African Hip Hop Dance Championships’ gives an opportunity to all dancers across South Africa to perform and compete with their peers in a bid to later represent their country on an international level,” he said.
