Bring the house down

JOBURG - A STUNNING PERFORMANCE of The Last Anniversary, an operatic drama, captivated audiences at The Market Theatre.

The Last Anniversary encompassed all forms of art in the show which described the hardships felt by an African man who wants nothing more than to travel to France.

The musical included not only acting and interpretive dance, but also moving opera sets performed by Thabang Edward Phiri, Zenneth Cibane, Thembisile Twala and Till Fechner, who brought the audience to their feet after nearly every set. Captain McClean, played by Themi Venturas, brought the house down in a fit of laughter in his portrayal of a drunken airplane pilot.

Bertrand Festas role of an agitated customs policeman and Ikki Hoshino’s role of the Japanese journalist brought a comedic angle to the drama.

The musicians, Martin Surot, Ildo Nandja and Raphael Impert, treated the audience to upbeat and high tempo mood music throughout the show.

The international cast put on a performance that was well worthy of the standing ovation that they received at the end of the night.
