No more lies on Whatsapp

JOBURG - Smartphone users will either love or hate the new WhatsApp feature which notifies the sender when the recipient has read the text.

Similarly to the Blackberry feature BBM, WhatsApp users will now know for sure if their message has not only been delivered, but also when it’s been read.

On 6 November, WhatsApp rolled out a new feature, modifying the existing in-app notifications.

Before a double tick on the phone app would notify the sender the message has reached the recipient, but now it turns blue to notify the message has been read.

WhatsApp, in its FAQ section, explains that the feature pertains to group chat as well.

The feature has been rolled out over-the-air, without requiring any software updates, and features on Android, iOS and Microsoft phones as well.

Do you think phone applications such as this one are minimising a person’s choice to respond at will or do you think it improves on communication?
