Liza with a T comes to Foxwood

HOUGHTON - CABARET performer Tonya Koenderman is back in town with her one-woman Liza Minnelli tribute.

Directed by Neil Lessick, Liza with a ‘T’ has played to full houses around South Africa and in Namibia, and now delight audiences at Foxwood Theatre.

“The show tells the story of Minnelli’s life – her close relationship with her father, her struggle to conquer drug and alcohol abuse, her many relationships, and the influence her mother, Judy Garland, had over her,” said theatre manager Clive Rodel.

“But [it] mainly pays tribute to the songs Minnelli made famous, such as Cabaret; Mein Herr; Maybe This Time; Money, Money; New York, New York; All That Jazz and many more.”

Koenderman carefully studied Minnelli’s moves and music for hours, and her dedication paid off.

“Her impersonation has been so impressive that she was invited to star in the look-alike, sound-alike show Stars in Your Eyes in 1996,” said Rodel.

This accolade led to Koenderman being the only local artist to perform in Beyond Belief, an international show that ran for 18 months at the Sun City Extravaganza.

The September dates at the intimate Houghton theatre will mark Koenderman’s fourth run of the show in Joburg.

Liza with a ‘T’ will run from 5-7, 12-14, and 19-21 September at Foxwood Theatre, 13 5th Street, Houghton Estate.
