1. Go to the fair
The Parkhurst Village Fair promises to be “quintessentially Parkhurst”, and will make for a fun day out with family and friends, both two- and four-legged. The 26 July event at Verity Park will feature gourmet food trucks, the suburb’s own craft beer, and will have a special focus on lifestyle and cycling.

2. High tea for cancer
Enjoy a high tea fundraiser for cancer with Mrs South Africa contestant Lindela Mzobe. The event will be held on 26 July at the Tintswalo at Waterfall boutique hotel, Kyalami.

3. Take a run through a park
ParkRun is an increasingly popular way to get some exercise and enjoy Joburg’s beautiful parks on a weekly basis. The free, 5km, timed runs are open to all, and are safe and easy to take part in.
ParkRuns take place at Delta Park, and in Bryanston and Lonehill.

4. Celebrate Argentine culture
Enjoy photographic exhibitions, dance performances, music collaborations, and a theatrical performance that celebrate Argentine culture. Events will take place in Newtown, Sandton, Soweto and Pretoria.

5. 99 bottles of beer on the wall
Beer-lovers, rejoice! Fourways’ The Beerhouse will celebrate its opening this weekend. This new venue features 25 taps and “Africa’s biggest beer variety”. Its housebrew, Gold Rush, will also be launched. This pale ale is a collaboration between Joburg inner city brewery, SMACK!Republic and Cape Town’s Lakeside brewery.

6. Mother nature knows best
Head into the countryside and enjoy snake displays; cheetah talks; lion, cheetah and wild dog feeds; an animal creche and more at the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve, Krugersdorp.

7. Walking the talk
On 27 July thousands of Joburgers will converge at Marks Park, Emmarentia, and then take to the streets for the annual Discovery 702 Walk the Talk event. While entries are closed, you can still show your support.

8. A walk on the wild side
The Norscot Koppies and Kingfisher Nature Reserve, Douglasdale, will hold an open day on 27 July. You can enjoy a self-guided walk where you can learn more about the indigenous vegetation and natural phenomena of the region.

Maboneng Precinct’s independent cinema, The Bioscope, will continue its Classic Movie Sundays on 27 July with the original high school musical, Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, at 7pm.

10. Laughter is the best medicine
Get your dose of laughter at POPArt Centre, Maboneng Precinct, on 27 July. The regular stand-up comedy night, The Box, will feature the funny men of Goliath and Goliath at 7.30pm.
