Chuckle at classic Chaplin film

SAXONWOLD - Take in legendary actor Charlie Chaplin's last appearance as the "gentleman tramp" at a Majestic Film Society screening of Modern Times.

The film will be introduced by Radio Today broadcaster and film commentator Selwyn Klass, and will be followed by a light, hot supper with wine.

“Ten years after movies learnt to talk, Chaplin still remained ‘silent’,” said Klass.

“[In this film] Chaplin plays a factory worker who goes crazy from his repetitious job on an assembly line and his boss’ demands for greater speed and efficiency. Ultimately encompassing the tyranny of machine over man, this cinematic masterpiece has more relevance today than ever.”

The film features Chaplin’s classic theme tune, Smile.

The Modern Times screening will take place on 27 July at the Ditsong Museum of Military History auditorium, 22 Erlswold Way, Saxonwold, at 6pm.
