Grahamstown fest preview show for Joburg

JOBURG - If you're not heading to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival this year, don't worry too much about missing out.

Maboneng Precinct’s PopArt Centre will host an “unofficial National Arts Festival preview show”, featuring a serious line-up of comedic talent this month.

Chris Forrest, Deep Fried Man, Eureka Nkese and Dillan Oliphant are but some of the names lined up for The F Word; six comedy shows to run from 26 until 29 June.

26 June

Starship Improvise

Hosted by Forrest and featuring Ryan Whittal, Vittorio Leonardi and Richelieu Benoir, Starship Improvise is a short-form improvised comedy show.

The comedians will be pitted against each other in a battle of wits, humour, and downright silliness.

The show starts at 8pm.

27 June

Who’s Your Daddy?

Starring Forrest, this is a comedian’s experience of the joys of fatherhood, from pregnancy to the birth to looking after an infant.

The show starts at 8pm.

Funnier Than Them

Deep Fried Man’s musical satire, Forrest’s witty one-liners, and Warren Robertson’s dark, smart stories have won Comic’s Choice Awards, gained Edinburgh Festival acclaim, and sold out comedy shows across South Africa.

Funnier Than Them marks the trio’s first combined endeavour – and what will probably be the funniest show on the Fringe.

The show starts at 10.15pm.

28 June

That Bushman’s Crazy

In his debut show, Robby Collins will mesmerise audiences with the charm and realness that infuses the performance.

From stories about growing up in Durban to boxing with his mom, this show will leave audiences thinking, “That bushman’s crazy!”

The show starts at 8pm.

Stand Up 4 Comedy

A group of stand-up comedians, comprising Nkese, Gavin Kelly, Prins, and Dillan Oliphant, will present stand-up, sketches and improvisational comedy.

The show starts at 10.15pm.

29 June

Goliath & Goliath

Starring Jason Goliath, Donovan Goliath, Nick Goliath and friends, Goliath & Goliath makes for one of the most diverse comedy gigs in the country.

The show starts at 8pm.
