British classical sensation to wow with stellar line-up

British classical group Blake will be performing in South Africa next month and promise a stellar performance.

Award winning British classical group, Blake will be hitting South African shores in June to play four concerts that promise to mesmerise classical music fans.

The hit makers will be joined by Icelandic opera singer, Gardar Thor Cortes who is internationally renowned for his stellar performance in the Broadway hit, The Phantom of the Opera.

According to Thulane Popoyi, a public relations officer at AfroAsia, audiences can look forward to a stellar performance from “the finest classic crossover artists in the world”.

“Some of the best loved classical cross-over music ever written, masterfully arranged and expertly performed, to create a magical evening for South African audiences,” he said.

Popoyi added that Blake and Cortes will be accompanied by the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, while the Camerata Orchestra will accompany them on the Cape Town leg of their tour.

“Four of the most gifted male vocalists in the world, will come together to bring to South Africa four concerts, combining the very best of opera, classical, musicals and pop harmony,” he added.

Blake rose to prominence after they launched their first album in 2007. The album was well received, selling more than 100 000 copies in just three weeks and earning the group their first gold disc.

They followed this success with a Brit award for album of the year in early 2008.

Cortes has also made his mark with his debut album, Cortes, which reached number one on the UK classical chart. The renowned tenor also received a classical Brit award nomination in 2008.

Performances are on 20 and 21 June at the Cape Town Convention Centre and on 27 and 28 June in Johannesburg at Emperor’s Palace. Tickets are available at Computicket.
