Africa Day concert billed to showcase the best of Africa

The Bassline's Africa Day concert celebrates 10 years this year and promises to entertain with a stellar line-up.

In the spirit of celebrations taking place this year, the Bassline Africa Day concert is also celebrating its 10 year anniversary. Featuring renowned South African artists such as Vusi Mahlasela and Admiral and Jah Seed, the annual Africa Day concert is set to rock Newtown and will take place on 24 May at the Bassline.

According to Jani Roodt, of Red Flag Design and Marketing, the concert will also feature other renowned African artists, promising a fun-filled event.

“The Bassline Africa Day Concert is always a highlight of the year and 2014 will be no exception,” she said.

In addition to the spirited celebrations at the concert, the revamped Bassline will also be on show, which Roodt describes as being refreshed and ready to be relaunched.

“The Bassline itself is celebrating its 20 year anniversary, making it one of the longest running live music venues in South Africa, so it’s a nice tie-in with the concert,” she said.

Roodt added that this year`s Bassline Africa Day Concert line-up is a reflection of the diverse and contemporary sounds currently rocking the continent and the concert will celebrate the best of the continent.

From the African folk of Vusi Mahlasela and the Ethiopian Jazz of Akale Wube, to the cutting-edge hip-hop of Tumi, this year’s concert showcases the heartbeats of Africa,” Roodt said.

Artists to be featured in the concert also include South African artists Tumi, Reason, Eight Bars Short and Yugen Blakrok. Other African artists to be featured include Smarty and Akale Wube.

Tickets for the event are available at Computicket and will be sold at the door.
