Lusito Land back with a bang

JOBURG - The city's biggest Portuguese festival, Lusito Land is set to be bigger and better than ever.

Visitors can indulge in a banquet of some of Joburg’s tastiest Portuguese cuisine, and a line-up of some of the country’s top musicians will keep feet tapping day and night.

The festival first opened its doors in 1981 as a celebration of Portuguese tradition and culture, and has since evolved to include many of the cultures of Joburg residents.

Lusito Association for the Physically and Mentally Challenged spokesperson Noemia Contente said, “This year’s festival promises to be the best one we have ever put on, and we have gone all out to make sure all our visitors have a great time.”

All proceeds from the festival will benefit the association.

The festival has been voted best festival by Leisure Options readers and receives 160 000 visitors annually.

The festival will take place from 24 April until 4 May at Wemmer Pan, Pioneer Park, La Rochelle, Johannesburg, from 10am until 10pm on weekdays, from 10am until 11pm on weekends and public holidays, and from 10am until 7pm on 4 May.
