Oscar-nominated short films at Bioscope

MABONENG PRECINCT - Film buffs can take in five Oscar-nominated short films at independent cinema The Bioscope this month.

The programme, presented by ShortsHD, will include live action, animated and documentary films.

The seven minute long Finnish film Do I have to take care of everything? tells the story of a family late for a wedding.

Danish contribution Helium is a 23 minute long film about an eccentric hospital janitor who helps a dying boy regain the joy and happiness of life.

The half-hour French film Just before losing everything focuses on a mother who tells her boss that she and her children need to leave the region in a hurry.

Spanish director Esteban Crespo’s 24 minute long film Aquel no era yo (That wasn’t me) tells the story of Paula and Kaney, a Spanish woman and an African child who have nothing in common, but whose lives will be joined forever.

The Voorman Problem, a 13 minute long film from the United Kingdom, stars Tom Hollander and Martin Freeman.

In the film, Doctor Williams is called in to examine the enigmatic Mr Voorman, a prisoner who believes he is a god.

The screenings will begin on 15 February, well ahead of the 2 March Academy Awards ceremony.
