Love songs for Valentine’s Day

JOBURG - Lovebirds can look forward to a scintillating celebration of love and some of the songs it has inspired this Valentine's Day.

The 17-piece Johannesburg Big Band and three stellar vocalists, Timothy Moloi, Naz Holland and Cito, will take to the stage at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre for one night only on 14 February.

Event promoter Collett Dawson said, “My Big Band Valentine highlights the inimitable flair of [this] world-class band, directed by Adam Howard, as they provide an unforgettable evening for those in and out of love, those still searching for the elusive emotion, and those who merely love a good love song.”

Moloi (Starlight Classics, Aladdin), Holland (Coca Cola Popstars, Johannesburg Festival Orchestra) and Cito (Wonderboom, El Cantante) will treat the audience to classic big band renditions of hits like I’ve got you under my skin, Quando quando quando, They can’t take that away from me, The way you look tonight, and Fever.

“We can’t wait to stage our second production at this… venue. We revelled in the experience of working with Howard and the band previously, and are delighted to have been contracted again by the theatre to provide another concert of classic big-band sounds in pure celebration of love, for Valentine’s Day,” said Dawson.

Even Gold Reef City general manager, Mike Page, was over the moon at the thought of the concert.

“After the success of Swingin’ Christmas at the end of 2013, we’re thrilled to have the incredible talents of the Johannesburg Big Band back at the Lyric,” he said.

My Big Band Valentine will take place on 14 February at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, at 8pm.
