Feel the love with ELO

JOBURG - Take a trip back in time on Valentine's Day weekend with British progressive art rock group Electric Light Orchestra with Phil Bates.

The group will perform their classic chart-toppers at two concerts at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, on 13 and 14 February.

ELO, as the group is known to fans, accumulated 27 top 40 hit singles in the UK and the USA with songs such as Roll Over Beethoven, Evil Woman, All Over the World and Don’t Bring Me Down.

Bates led ELO Part II from 1993 until 1999, after frontman Jeff Lynne left the band. “I am excited to tour South Africa again. I’m looking forward to playing to our fans in Johannesburg and Cape Town,” said Bates.

“I love the songs I performed with ELO, and I’m enjoying touring Europe, and now South Africa, with these songs that have everyone singing along.”

The band’s distinctive pop-rock fusion with a string section of violins and cellos made local string sensation The Muses the perfect choice as the opening act.

The Gauteng-based group have released their second album, Pop on Strings 2, which brings together the sounds of two violins, a viola and a cello, and have performed at prestigious events such as the Africa Fashion Awards.
