Formies fun for Parktown learners at Old Parks

Parktown learners have a blast at the sports club that has always been theirs historically: Old Parktonian Sports Club.

Fun in the sun, abundant smiles and new friends characterised the annual Formies Day for Grade 8 and 9 learners of Parktown Boys and Parktown Girls.

Old Parktonian Sports Club was abuzz on a sunny but cool Freedom Day, April 27, with all sorts of sports and team activities.

A whopping 350 excited learners took part in fun activities including bowls, cardio crossfit, cricket, soccer shoot-out, tug-of-war and fun inflatables.

After the events it was time for the war cries with proud parents cheering on too.

Teams had to work together to move a giant dragon across the field and the dreary egg-and-spoon race turned into lots of fun with a giant 4m inflatable spoon and a beachball-sized egg that had to be carried.

Bowls, cricket and soccer were presented with a twist to ensure maximum fun.

“It was a day filled with a variety of fun activities and great spirit,” said Parktown High School for Girls marketing and communications officer, Kerry Liss.

Club manager Lizette Driescher said the aim of the day was to expose Parktown learners and parents to the sports club and for them to experience all the facilities offered.

“Old Parktonian Sports Club has very close ties to the two schools and with this fun day we hope to get more parents and learners from the schools involved, as this is their club,” concluded Driescher.
