Sandringham High girls crowned football champions of the JVW Girls’ Schools League

SANDRINGHAM – Soccer is alive and kicking at the Sandringham High School as the girls' soccer team triumphed at the recently held JVW Girls' Schools League.


The Sandringham High School girls’ football team was crowned champions of the JVW Girls’ Schools League in a recent development tournament held at the Germiston Football Club premises.

The Sandringham girls were crowned champions after winning all but one of their matches of the Joburg Stream 4 group which comprised schools such as Sandringham High, Benoni High, Reddam House, Edenvale High, Glenvista High, King David Linksfield High, Pinnacle College and Pinnacle Founders Hill.

The tournament, which is the brainchild of Banyana Banyana skipper Janine van Wyk and run by her soccer team, the Bedfordview-based JVW Ladies which plies its trade in Gauteng Sasol Women’s League, is sponsored by the City of Ekurhuleni and comprises of divisions of U15, U17 and the open group for schools from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The league matches are played by the various schools in the streams on the home and away basis and the winners of each stream then progress to the playoffs, which were eventually won by the Sandringham girls. They were crowned champions of the league at a ceremony held at the Kempton Park Civic Centre on 8 November.
