St John’s hockey star

JOHANNESBURG – St John's College hockey player Kabelo Mokanyane has been selected to represent his country at the U16 level.

St John’s College hockey star Kabelo Mokanyane made his school proud after being selected for the U16 national team.

Mokanyane is a talented player who, at only 16, has made it into the St John’s College first team for hockey. Master in charge of hockey, Andy Aldred said, “Kabelo has played 36 out of the 37 games in the recent season for the school’s first team, which in itself is a phenomenal achievement.

“He has been one of the best players on our team.”

Mokanyane was selected for the U16 national hockey team following a stellar performance for the Southern Gauteng U18 side at the interprovincial tournament held in Pietermaritzburg from 6 July to 11 July.

Following Southern Gauteng’s win in the tournament, Mokanyane was selected to represent his country.

Aldred added, “His achievement comes as no surprise whatsoever. As long as he stays focused, I believe that he will do brilliantly in the hockey world.”
