Those who are interested need to bring their own training gear, copies of IDs, three head-and-shoulder colour photos and copies of their parents’ IDs as well.

Club chairman, Dimitri Athanasopoulos, said players who are under the age of 16 can bring their birth certificates.

The trials start at 4pm and run until 6pm, and everyone is welcome.

“We are looking for skilled players and not only from around the Sandringham and surrounding suburbs, but Gauteng at large,” said Athanasopoulos.

“We want to expand our teams as we are preparing for the Safa Gauteng Development League with our junior academy side. We are also looking forward to taking Jacoba FC to new heights this year, and hopefully bring home some silverware.”

This year, their senior team will play in the Safa SAB League and they are campaigning for a promotion to the ABC Motsepe League next season, he said.

“We invite all players who would like a chance to ply their footballing skills at Jacoba Academy to come and show us what they’ve got.

“For players who might be residing far away, Jacoba is currently in the process of acquiring a place in Kensington to house them and make sure they’re kept safe and in a good environment for the 2018 season.”

Athanasopoulos said working with many boys from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, the academy has noticed that a lot of them stay with friends and other family relatives which often lead to problems, thus a new place to assist them.

“We have retired teachers who assist with their academic stuff including homework and other related school work.”
