King Edward School rugby players spent a week of their school holidays being coached by former Springbok rugby players at an Investec International Rugby Academy course.
The players had the opportunity to learn from players such as John Smit, Marius Hurter, Hentie Maartens and Jacques Botes. The course, which took place at St Charles College in Pietermaritzburg, taught the boys the skills and theory which are necessary to play the game. Among other things, they were taught about mental toughness, position-specific coaching and analysis, rugby intelligence and rugby-specific conditioning.
Former Springbok captain, Smit and prop Hurter spent time sharing their expertise with players and coaches during the course while Maartens worked with the players on scrum half skills.
