Bryneven learner crowned the 2017 Interschool’s diving champion for a third time

MELROSE – Kingsmead College hosted the 2017 Interschools Diving Championships.

Bryneven Primary School diver, Lakin Alberts (12) clinched first place for the third straight year at the 2017 Interschools Diving Championships.

Alberts swept the boards against her competitors from Brescia House, St Mary’s, St Andrews, St Stithians, Redhill, Roedean, St Katherine’s, Eduinc, Menlopark and Bryndale.

In Grade 6, Lakin is also a member of the Central Gauteng Aquatics team and will be competing in the upcoming National Age Group Championships at the Kings Park Pool in KwaZulu-Natal from 11 to 15 December.

She is focused on being selected to represent South Africa at the World Junior Diving Championships and European Championships next year.

Lakin also plays first team hockey and netball and participates in swimming alongside her twin sister, Taylin.

Lakin’s diving coach, Tamzin Moodley said she foresees enormous success for Lakin.

“She is a very determined young lady who has the outstanding ability to adapt to any sport or situation, and is capable of achieving at the highest level,” said Moodley.

“She has the competitive drive that most coaches can only dream of instilling within their players. Her natural born talent is complemented by her hard work and dedication.”

Moodley added that Lakin was popular among her peer group and captivated her elders with her easy going, yet respectful persona.

“Lakin has shown that nothing will hold her back and success is her only option. A bright sporting future awaits this talented athlete.”
