DSJ wins three galas in two days

AUCKLAND PARK – The German School bags three swimming galas through intense training and dedication.

Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) can boast winning three swimming galas in two days.

The Auckland Park’s high school team surged ahead of The King’s College, Fourways High School B and Allen Glen High School to take 222 points, 44 more than second-placed King’s College, at DSJ on 12 October.

The next day, DSJ’s primary school A team (167 points) edged Bryneven Primary School (160), Laerskool Fairland, Weltevreden Park Primary School and Cliffview Primary School at Bryandale.

The primary school’s B team (170) made it a treble with an even closer victory over Agape Christian School (166). Maragon Private Schools, Risidale Primary School and Curro Krugersdorp followed.

DSJ’s sports co-ordinator, Silke Trummer put the success down to the school’s successful swimming culture, the swimmers’ work ethic, and dedicated coaches.

“Some of the children swim twice before school and once again in the afternoon,” she said. “They train so much and the coaches know how to motivate them.”

She added that the primary school has three galas left before the end of the year, and the high school has one left at St Peter’s College.

“I think we can win the high school gala, although St Peter’s is good. At this stage of the season, we are swimming relays only.”
