Pridwin’s rugby tournament sees 8 schools show off their love for the game

BIRDHAVEN – Eight schools from Johannesburg participated in the annual Pridwin 7's Rugby tournament on 15 June.

 

Eight schools from Johannesburg participated in Pridwin Preparatory School’s seventh 7’s Rugby tournament on 15 June.

St Stithians College, St Benedict’s College, Christian Brothers College, King Edward VII Preparatory School, Orchards Primary School, St John’s College and St David’s Marist, Inanda participated in the event. The tournament aims to promote a love for rugby among young players.

The festive atmosphere of the day was enhanced by Pridwin’s marimba bands. Further fun was brought to the event by a juggler on stilts, poi fire dancers, Mufasa the Lion’s mascot and games stalls for the children.

The most valuable player of the tournament, as judged by the referees, went to Matt Joubert from King Edward VII Preparatory School. St John’s College emerged as the winning team with 34 tries scored. King Edward VII Preparatory School came in second with 32 tries and in third place was St Benedict’s College with 25 tries scored.

The whole festival was sponsored by Air France. Pridwin aims to grow this event to allow a greater participation across more primary schools in the coming years.
