St Johns’ pupil to represent South African tennis in Cairo

HOUGHTON - St John's College pupil Charl Morgan has been selected to represent South African tennis in the U14 boys' team and to participate in the qualification event for the World Championship in Cairo in June.

Morgan was one of two boys selected by South African tennis for the U14 team which participated in the Southern African Championships in January where 11 countries were represented.

The SA U14 boys won the event and qualified for the next round which was the African Junior Championships in Tunisia during March. Morgan and his partner made the finals of the boys U14 doubles and finished as runners-up in the doubles.

They also finished third overall and qualified for the next round which is the qualification event for the World Championships in Egypt. Should they win the event, they will qualify for the World Championships in Europe during August.

Morgan also participated in the Confederation of African Tennis and the International Tennis Federation U14 circuit in Botswana recently, and won all four of the U14 boys’ titles. He is currently ranked sixth in Africa and his ranking will move up once all the results have been updated.
