St John’s rowers are hot to get to Brazil

HOUGHTON - St John’s College rowing athletes will once again represent South Africa at the Junior World Championships this year.

Matric pupils Daniel Carter and James Mitchell, along with their coach Grant Dodds, are set to participate at the international competition to be held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, in August.

They represented South Africa previously at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Germany last year in the Junior Man’s Coxless pair category, and finished in fifth place – one of the best positions any South African junior pair has ever achieved.

The boys worked exceptionally hard to secure a place at the championships this year, and sacrificed many hours for training while still balancing their academic, cultural and sporting commitments.
