St John’s swimmer to represent SA in Italy

HOUGHTON - St John's College student, Peter Buckle, has been chosen to swim for the South African Swimming Youth Squad, which will tour Italy in June.

 

Buckle won three gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the Central Gauteng Level 2 Championship Gala that took place in February.

Late last year, Buckle broke five Gauteng records for the 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and the 200m individual medley at the Eastern Gauteng Championships and he competed at the SA Schools Regional Championships in Pretoria, representing Gauteng and St John’s College.

The team competed against swimmers from all the provinces as well as Kenya, Swaziland, Namibia and Zimbabwe, with over 1 500 swimmers participating in the event. Buckle won two gold and one silver medal in the 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly respectively.
