Old Edwardians head coach reflects on his favourite memories from the Diadora Jozi Cup

Old Edwardians head coach, Brandon Buckley has been a coach for approximately 20 years.

Old Edwardians head coach, Brandon Buckley talks about his best memories of the Diadora Jozi Cup as a coach.

Buckley explained that his coaching career began when he was a student, approximately 20 years ago and cricket has always been his passion.

The head coach said, “Last years Diadora Jozi Cup, for its first edition, was a great success. The teams involved experienced playing at different clubs grounds, communities and the rules that were introduced (example bonus overs), brought different approaches and excitement to the game. Players like Josh Lang, Jordan Morris and Muzzi Sheik stood out throughout the tournament.”

He noted that he currently coaches the Old Edwardians Premier and Presidents sides and uses the Jozi cup to prepare the players for future Premier League seasons.

Buckley added, “Players to watch out for include: Luandre Pretorius, Neil Timmers, David Teeger, Muzzi Sheik and Josh Lang. Our toughest opponents always seem to be our big rivals Jeppe Quondam Cricket Club and Delfos Cricket Club.”

His advice to players prior to them taking to the field is to sum up the conditions as quickly as possible, play with intensity and for each player to express themselves out on the field.

The head coach concluded, “The Diadora Jozi Cup is a great tournament that clubs can use to identify talent that may be overlooked in the longer formats of the game in the normal season. The Diadora Jozi Cup helped us discover good players, and thus strengthening the ranks of Ed’s cricket.”
