Pirates hosts festive pub run

GREENSIDE – About 300 people took to the streets of Greenside and the parks on January 20.

About 300 runners took part in the annual Pirates Pub Run on January 20.

Chair of Pirates Road Running Gerry Greyling described the event as the most festive pub run in Joburg.

He said due to the timing of the fourth wave of Covid-19 in December 2021, the event was moved to January.

A staggered start ensured that runners could jog safely from pub to pub.

The just under 9km route started and finished at Pirates Club, winding its way through Greenside and the parks, with refreshments at Parkview Golf Club, Zoo Lake Waterpolo Club, Giles and Hudsons.

Greyling said, “The pub run is not a race but a social run where participants traditionally dress up as Pirates, run in groups with friends and are encouraged in-between pit stops by roving supporters and music to help get them to their next destination.”

The next pub run is scheduled to take place in December 2022. Entries, which usually sell out within a day or two, will be available in November.
