City of Johannesburg set to host the 5th annual Silent Walk
JOHANNESBURG – City of Johannesburg's 5th annual Silent Walk set to take place in September.
The City of Johannesburg is to host its fifth annual Silent Walk this September.
The Silent Walk aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the deaf community. This year’s walk will be held in memory of Judith Madi, a deaf activist who lost her life in March this year.
The event first took place in 2017 with the aim of promoting the rights of the deaf communities and the status of sign language. The walk also aims to educate the private and public sector to include deaf persons in availing skills and job opportunities.
The walk will be virtual with start and finish lines being participants’ nearest road, treadmill, training station and any other route or distance of choice.
Entry fee starts at R150 for 10km, R100 for 5km and is free for children under the age of 12. It will take place on September 18 from 06:00 until 15:00.
