Sentient Archery offers videos and tips for training at home
SAXONWOLD – Archers should not shoot arrows at home, but they can still keep their minds and techniques 'sharp'.
The archery community in Joburg is growing and there is much participants of the sport can do while maintaining safety at home.
Sentient Archery coach, Charni Battams said the archery club did not condone shooting arrows outside of a safe, correctly-setup archery range but one’s technique could benefit immensely from drawing and holding the string, and following instructions on videos the archery club was sending to clients.
“Members can practise doing bow draws at home with their bows, no arrows loaded, and use mirrors to asses their positional form,” Battams told Rosebank Killarney Gazette.
“They can hold the bow at full draw for as long as possible with good form, and then come down, to maintain and improve their stamina. They can do some reading about different techniques to expand their knowledge.”
If someone did not own a bow, Battams said a resistance band could work as a substitute to pulling a bow string. Weights and water bottles in hand could also simulate the weight of the bow, while one was pulling the band.
“We will be offering some videos to our clients on specific exercises to condition their bodies for archery, how to tune their equipment and much more.”
For people keen on taking up the sport, the coach advised they could contact the club for video content, and live video calls with club members and staff who could get them prepared for shooting with a real bow when the range was open again.
Sentient Archery is based in Saxonwold, is 15 years old, and renowned for its recurve bow shooting.
