IQ Football boosts little ones’ confidence

CRAIGHALL PARK – In as much as the young boys and girls at IQ Football learn new skills, they have fun and boost their confidence while doing it.

IQ Football based in Craighall Park kicked off the year with their football holiday clinics.

According to coach Sean Szabo, the clinics cater for children from three to 14 years of age.

He said the first week saw a variety of age groups of boys and girls participating. “The main thing that we focus on for the holiday stuff is really just to gain their confidence and boost their mental side which I think is a big thing in life and football for sure,” said Szabo.

He added that the players practised three hours a day from Monday to Friday which totalled 15 hours per week.

“This gives the children a lot of opportunities to practise skills and develop their different core skills we do every day. Then we see if there is an improvement by the end of the week which there always is. As they do these core skills, ball work and general control, they become more confident in the games that we play.”

Szabo added they played fun games so that it was not the serious training type of set up but rather a fun environment so that the players learned while enjoying it.

He said they also encouraged the children a lot, for instance, during skills they go around and give them high-fives so they feel good about themselves.

“We believe that how the kids see their own performances like scoring a goal is a big thing towards making them believe in themselves. We always ask parents to let us know how the children are feeling and how they have done. From our side as coaches, we do want them to improve, we want them to gain confidence.”

The coach concluded there were a lot of new children joining them as well as those who have attended before which confirmed that they had enjoyed it.
