Dojo group rejoices in satisfactory World Cup results

PARKTOWN NORTH – The Dorfman Karate Dojo group stood tall and proud with their medals at the KWF World Cup.

Members of the Malcolm Dorfman Parktown North Dojo, Shane Dorfman Norwood and Melrose Dojo were selected for the Karatenomichi World Federation (KWF) South Africa National Team for the 2019 KWF World Cup which was held in Japan from 7 to 10 November.

The results of the Dorfman members was outstanding with three gold medal wins. Christopher Anthony took the male individual senior Kumite title, the premier event of the World Cup. Matthew Pine, Reynier Landman and Gadija Essop took the junior team Kata title and Prisha Thambiran took the individual female junior Kata title.

Silver medals within the runner-up spot were taken by Coenraad Malan in the male individual senior Kumite category, the other by the junior Kata team of Aimee Muha, Aaron Friedlein and Noa Burke and Aaron again in the individual junior Kumite category.

Bronze medals were won by Aimee Muha in both junior individual female Kata and Kumite, Noa Burke in both junior individual male Kata and Kumite and last but not least, Moses Sebopa in the individual veteran Kumite category.

As a country, Russia defeated South Africa for the most medals, but as a Dojo group, Dorfman Karate stood head and shoulders above every other Dojo group in this world event with their tally of medals – a result that certainly made both their sensei, Malcolm and Shane Dorfman proud.
