Free weekly 2.5km or 5km run to launch at Zoo Lake

PARKVIEW – Community members of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to join the free weekly run.

MyRun is launching at Zoo Lake at 7.30am on 22 September.

The free weekly 2.5km or 5km event encourages an active lifestyle for young and old of all ages and fitness levels.

The event is a partnership between Rocky Road Runners, the Zoo Lake Users Committee, City Parks and Zoo and MyRun.

Chairperson of the Rocky Road Runners Matodzi Tshidzumba said, “This is an opportunity for residents to use the park, develop a healthy lifestyle, spend quality time as families, get kids tired and ensure peace at home.”

MyRun event manager Lucille Alumai said, “Zoo Lake is a central location that should attract a big crowd. It will bring a sporty element to the picnic park. This is a community initiative brought to the people.”

Chairperson of the Zoo Lake Users Committee Fran Haslam said, “We are delighted that MyRun is coming to Zoo Lake. Thank you to Matodzi from Rockies and MyRun for the initiative. We are looking forward to welcoming all the runners, walkers and families to Zoo Lake every Sunday. This is going to be a great weekly event.”

MyRun is a Discovery Vitality initiative aimed at bringing free runs/walks to the Zoo Lake community. Vitality members get up to 300 vitality points by participating in the event.

Community members are encouraged to register for the event on www.myrun.org.za and receive a timing band at the once-off cost of R60. Locals who would like to volunteer to assist with the administration of the event are welcome to offer their services on the same website.

Parking is available at Moyo Zoo Lake and participants are encouraged to enjoy breakfast at Moyo restaurant following the weekly Sunday events.
