Former Banyana goal poacher Portia Modise picks her best Alex girls football talent

ALEXANDRA – Alex's two topmost talented girl footballers will be chosen this month from a shortlist of six who will make the trip to Germany.

Six of the most talented soccer girls in Alexandra have been selected by former Banyana Banyana goal poacher of all time Portia Modise to battle it out for two spots on a football trip of a lifetime to Germany later in the year.

Modise, who partnered with programme sponsors, German insurance giant Allianz Global Corporate and Speciality, in its Allianz Explorer Camp’s football edition, selected the girls during an Allianz 5-a-side tournament held at the Number Three Square Grounds.

The ultimate two winners to undertake the trip to Germany to train under the watchful eye of coaches of top Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, will be named later this month after the successful candidates take a series of mental and physical tests before being offered the opportunity to represent South Africa at the camp from 22 to 27 August.

At the tournament, which was attended by all five high schools in Alexandra, Alex High School emerged the winner and bagged the R4 000 prize money that was on offer.

Four of its girls also dominated the talent stakes of the available six spots in the talent search competition, those being Pearl Khumalo, Precious Ndlovu, Molly Mathole and Dineo Sefoka while the other two places went to Amina Aloui and Eletha Depane of KwaBhekilanga Secondary School.

This is not the first time that Precious, a former Bluebirds Ladies development team member and Carter Primary School learner, has been scouted as possessing the best football talent.

Her nimble-footed ball skills were also chosen from more than 10 000 other prospects during a Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation’s Gauteng Future Champions talent search in 2015.

Alex high was crowned champions of the Allianz Explorer Camp tournament following a 3–1 win against KwaBhekilanga in a talent search that is now in its second edition. Last year’s search yielded Minerva Secondary School learner and Highlands Park development side member, Tebatso Sekoaleng.

Speaking after the event, Modise said she was impressed to see such talent at the tournament which reminded her of the early stages of her football career when it was just about passion, skills, and discipline.

“The girls demonstrated teamwork and were determined to win. I am honored to be part of the Allianz Explorer Camp’s football edition as it contributes to the development of women’s football in South Africa,” she said.
