Banyana Banyana captain Van Wyk host coaching clinic to local ladies teams

NORWOOD – The programme was more of a pointer on how to be disciplined and for them to master the art of football.

It’s not often that you get professional advice for free but Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk visited local girls soccer teams to give life lessons at no cost.

Van Wyk took Norwood Youngsters Ladies FC, Johannesburg United Girls FC and Bluebirds FC through their paces and shared some encouraging team talks with the players.

The event was held in Norwood as part of Van Wyk’s giving back initiative in Johannesburg’s north-east suburbs and Alexandra.

Owner and coach of Norwood Youngsters, Venitta Masisi said the girls were excited to meet their favourite star and share life lessons with her.

“This was a great opportunity given to our girls’ teams as she [Van Wyk] mentored the girls… in order for them to become professional footballers,” said Masisi.

“The programme was more of a pointer on how to be disciplined and for them to master the art of football.”

According to Masisi, the Banyana captain was equally happy to be the referee in a match between Bluebirds and Youngsters which was the main feature of the day.

She said Van Wyk commended the girls’ effort on the field of play and praised them for their dedication to the game.

Van Wyk also donated soccer kits to the clubs, a gesture that Masisi, as well as other coaches, have welcomed.

“This has really put a big smile on my face when I see our youth are off the streets and doing extramural activities,” said Masisi.

“We hope and wish to see these youngsters progress to becoming professional footballers.”
