Danone Nations Cup registrations open

JOBURG – To mark the centenary of the Danone group and the 20th edition of the soccer tournament, Danone Nations Cup will host a joint world finals competition for 2018 and 2019.

Registrations for the 2019 edition of the Danone Nations Cup have opened and organisers are calling on primary schools in the Johannesburg East District of education to enter their U12 teams.

This year marks two major milestones in the history of the sponsors, Danone, as the company turns 100 and the tournament marks it’s 20th anniversary. To mark this special year and celebrate the two milestones, it has been decided that the 2018 and 2019 editions of the tournament will be held simultaneously.

“As 2019 coincides with our centenary year, we have decided to host a spectacular double final in the place where it all began – Barcelona.

“We are using this milestone and the power of football to make a strong connection to our ‘One Planet, One Health’ brand platform,” said Chantel Ehlers, internal communications manager at Danone Southern Africa.

Nomlinganiselo Primary School from the Western Cape won the 2018 South African Danone Nations Cup and will compete against 18 other nations for the 2018 World title, and the process to find the 2019 champions has begun and registrations are now open.

The tournament is run under the auspices of the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa) who collate registration forms, finalise dates and fixtures and manage the games at cluster, regional, provincial and national level.

Entry level games in the cluster will kick-off in March and go on to regional and provincial finals, culminating in the national final to be held in June or July at a venue still to be decided.

The world finals in Barcelona, the Spanish city that is considered as the football Mecca of the world, are expected to take place in early October and the exact dates are still yet to be confirmed.

Schools can register for the competition by contacting the national coordinator at Sasfa, Themba Tshabalala, on 011 403 2844, 084 290 0602 or 072 588 4957 or thembatshabalala@saschoolsfa.co.za

Alternatively, they can visit the Danone Nations Cup South Africa Facebook page or go to www.facebook.com/dncsouthafrica or www.danone.co.za to download the necessary documents.
