Football club on a high
LINKSFIELD – Local soccer club celebrates an excellent season with lots and lots of trophies.
It was a day of joyous celebration when Highlands Park Junior Football Club held its awards ceremony.
Players and parents came in their numbers and took their seats in the stands as club coordinator Debbie Ilouze and head coach Mike Pavkovitch kicked off proceedings.
They welcomed all in attendance and recounted some of the successes of the club this year.
These included the U12s and U13s winning their leagues. The U17 team missed winning their league by just one point.

The U8s, U13s and U17s won their cup competitions and the U6s were runners-up in their cup.
The season’s success was then reflected by the smiles on the faces of the youngsters as they came up to receive their trophies from club co-director Brad Kaftel.
“We want the youngsters to always have hope in what they do, whether in their career or soccer,” he said.
Kaftel and Pavkovitch presented a gift to Ilouze for all her work as the coordinator, calling her the ‘Iron Lady’ of the club.
Pavkovitch said Highlands Park Junior FC was open to all players of all abilities.
“We want the best for the children,” he said.
“Every year we sit down with the committee to plan our coaching and strategy [for this].”
He added that this year the club aimed to promote the kind of coaching and skills that suited it and ensure every child got equal playing time in matches.
The club also decided that many coaches had done well this year so only awarding coach of the year to one person would not be fair on the others.
Therefore every coach was coach of the year.
Jesse Gewer was named the little league player of the year.
