Ort SA hosts a classic game of golf at Killarney Country Club

KILLARNEY – Defying the high temperatures, golfers and other participants made their way to the Killarney Country Club to play golf to raise funds for Ort SA projects.

Residents, stakeholders, sponsors, and golfers spent their time playing golf for a good cause at Killarney Country Club. The Ort SA Golf Classic was organised by Ort SA members Debbie Lourie with the assistance of Rosemary Green and other members. Lourie said the aim of the golf day to fundraise towards education had been a part of the event since 2010.

New business development manager for Ort SA, Helene Itzkin said this was their 45th Golf Classic and extended her gratitude to Solly Burgin who has been a member of the Golf Committee for 45 years. “Our partners, the Sage Foundation, have been hands-on right from the beginning and we hope to work with them going forward. We have had a really good turn-out with about over 100 players.”

She added that there was more sponsorship from other businesses who had sponsored holes and Hatfield who had sponsored a car as a prize for someone who got a hole-in-one.

Sage Foundation manager for Africa and the Middle East, Kea Nkitseng said their foundation was a way of giving back to local communities and fundraising was part of their mission. “This is the second time we’ve partnered with the fantastic team at Ort to raise money for Sage’s $1 million-dollar challenge. We hosted the first-ever charity spinathon in South Africa earlier this year and today we’ve enjoyed an amazing day at the Classic Golf Day.

“Through today’s fundraising, we will be ensuring that more young people and women have access to education, work, and entrepreneurial opportunities.”

Itzkin said Ort SA is an international non-governmental organisation with an expertise in education with a presence in a lot of outreach schools “The proceeds from the event will be going towards our project of assisting those outreach schools. They will assist with projects we run in those schools such as coding, robotics, maths and science.”

She invited the communities at large to come and be a part of the Golf Classic next year.
