WIN TICKETS: Women’s cricket takes another step forward

ILLOVO – South Africa's first women's T10 cricket tournament will be played at Wanderers.

Wanderers Cricket Club will host South Africa’s first women’s T10 tournament.

The 10-over-an-innings event will see 10 club teams from around Gauteng descend on Illovo for a round-robin, semi-finals and finals between 21 and 24 September.

The Wanderers Ladies T10 will be one for the whole family.

A gin fest, beer tent and braai day on Heritage Day (24 September) will keep the adults happy while youngsters can enjoy their own area with jumping castles and face painting.

Proteas players, Marcia Letsoalo and Odine Kirsten have confirmed they will be playing.

Wanderers women’s captain, Shannon Kriel said field boundaries will be shortened so there will be more fours, sixes and catches during the non-stop action. There will be competitions and prizes throughout the weekend, including prizes for those in the crowd who catch sixes.

“Women’s cricket is growing in South Africa and even judging from our club the interest is increasing,” Kriel said.

“We want to get out there and show people how fun cricket is. You don’t have to be a Protea to play, there are more [women’s] clubs in the Gauteng league than last year. We hope more people will join up.”

Entry tickets and braai meals can be purchased on the iTickets website. General tickets are R20 and combo tickets for the weekend are R50.
