Jacoba Academy extends trials to get more talented stars
SANDRINGHAM – This is to give players who missed the previous trials an opportunity to showcase their talent.
Young soccer stars who might have missed the previous trials at Jacoba Football Academy still have a chance to shine at the newly announced trial dates.
Trials will be held again later this month at the Sandringham High School grounds.
Club chairman Dimitri Athanasopoulos has announced 28 and 29 July as the new dates to allow the club to search for more talent in their quest to boost their squad.
This is to give those players who might have missed a chance to trial an opportunity to come down and give it their best shot, he said.
“We had an issue with the public transport system on that weekend and we then decided to host Jacoba FC trials again this month,” said Athanasopoulos.
“We didn’t anticipate this problem as it arose suddenly. The turnout at the trials was great but we still want to give players the opportunity to trial as there could be some talented boys we might have missed at the previous trials and who want to play football at a higher level.”
The club is looking for players who aspire to play football professionally for its SAB League. Athanasopoulos said they need players who are under the age of 21, capping the age at 17 years old.
“If you are good enough you are old enough and for our youth programme we are looking for players who are between the ages of eight and 17,” said the chairman.
The trials will be conducted by the club’s technical staff who have the professional capabilities to do so.
Athanasopoulos said Jacoba Football Academy is a fully fit team driven by experience and passionate soccer professionals who are qualified to aid the development of the game.
He recently spent time in Portugal to further his knowledge. He said he made some important contacts with well-known clubs and hopefully, they will help them grow as a club.
“We now have five foreign nationals that will be a part of the coaches’ plans going forward into the next season,” added Athanasopoulos.
“We will release information about the players when all transfer duties have taken place.”
“We want to be known as a performance club that aspires to become a professional club in South Africa, therefore, we have to emulate what professional clubs replicate.”
