Local athlete represents overseas

SAXONWOLD – Jessica Dignon who came a victorious second at the San Diago triathlon series is representing the country well overseas.

A former Kingsmead College pupil and a Saxonwold resident, Jessica Dignon is raising the country’s flag high in San Diego, United States of America, after coming second in a summer series of triathlon events.

Dignon participated in a sprint event comprising odd distances – a 600m swim, a 31km bike ride and a 5km run. She finished only 31 seconds behind the winner Chelsea Vancott and 42 seconds in front of the third placed woman in the 24 to 29 age group. In a fast-paced race, she managed to come out number 28 out of a total combined field of 742.

Dignon is in San Diego training with coach Sergio Borges who is also teaching her the latest triathlon coaching techniques. Back in South Africa she is a coach with the Trifactri Triathlon Club as well as a swim coach with Aqua Athlete.

Besides the training and racing, she is enjoying life in southern California. Her intention is to race in more of the San Diego Triathlon Series races which take place about once a month until September.

Dignon arrived in San Diego in March and is preparing for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships which take place in Port Elizabeth in September competing in the 24 to 29 age group. She will arrive back in South Africa in late August having spent five months in San Diego, hopefully, fully prepared to compete with the worlds’ best in September.

Dignon is active on social media and you can follow her on Instagram @jessicadignon and on her travel blog www.triadventure.com
