#ICYMI: Sundowns vs Barça highlights in tweets

JOBURG - FC Barcelona beat Sundowns 3-1.

In commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s one-hundredth birthday, FC Barcelona travelled to South Africa for a friendly game on 16 May against ABSA Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Although Mamelodi Sundowns gave a good fight, the Spanish champions dominated the game from kick-off scoring two goals in the first twenty minutes, beating SA’S Sundowns 3-1.

The teams played for the Mandela Centenary Cup, which forms part of the celebrations of the life of Nelson Mandela. The game presented a wonderful opportunity for South African fans to watch Barça live in action, and was organised by the South African Football Association together with LaLiga World Challenge program.

Evren Albas, CEO of DEFY said, although it took about two hours in traffic, the game was worth the wait. There was an electric atmosphere, everyone was excited to see the two soccer teams play head to head . As Mr Mandela says, ‘Sport has a way to inspire and unite people that little else does.”

FC Barcelona has always professed their admiration for Nelson Mandela, and joined the mourning of the passing of ‘Madiba’ in 2013 at the age of 95 by wearing black armbands in the game against Cartagena.
