Jacoba FC in Sandringham aims to strengthen squad

SANDRINGHAM – Players who would like a chance to play in the SAB League can contact the academy to book for trials.

Jacoba Football Academy in Sandringham is looking to recruit new talented players to strengthen their squad.

The academy has been having trials since last weekend and will host trials in the first week of February for their junior division side.

Jacoba Football Academy’s chairman, Dimitri Athanasopoulos, said they are preparing for a much bigger league starting this year.

He said their managing director, Tiro van Rooyen, has also come back from the Caf Cup championship with South Africa’s U23 squad and he’s looking forward to working with a new talent in the club.

“The junior academy is set to have trials the first weekend in February. We are preparing for the Safa Gauteng Development League,” said Athanasopoulos.

“Our managing director, Tiro van Rooyen, says he is confident this year will be good for the crucial ages of development for the club, thus causing a ripple effect throughout the academy by being able to understand and implement a philosophy of play in order to identify our brand of winning and losing.”

He said they look forward to taking Jacoba FC to new heights this year, and hopefully they will bring home some silverware.

Their education centre will also be open this year, so, as the chairman, he asks any retired and current teachers wanting to give back to the community through a football organisation to avail themselves. “Any assistance we receive is welcomed.”
