ICYMI: Cycling with a purpose

LOMBARDY EAST – Anyone interested in making a donation to assist Peck raise funds for Thembalami Care Centre is welcome to do so.

Joburg resident, Samantha Peck, joined hundreds of other cyclists who, each year, use the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge to ride for a purpose.

The Infinitude Design employee routinely takes part in sporting events to raise both money and awareness for Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre. Situated in Lombardy East, the care centres look after vulnerable senior citizens and aged deaf and deafblind people.

In addition to Peck’s individual efforts, the Sandton-based cyclist has adopted the care centre as one of her company’s main corporate social investment (CSI) beneficiaries. Over the past six years, the talented design team has transformed a number of areas at Thembalami into warm, inviting spaces.

Later this month, she will be tackling the dining room.

This year’s cycle challenge took place on 19 November at Riversands Commercial Park and it was Peck’s sixth ride for Thembalami. According to the organisers’ website, participants have six hours to complete the event, from the last start group of the day.

There are enforced cut-off points at each hydration station, reads the website. “Each person will have to enter individually. Everyone is seeded according to their own individual index.”
