The Andre van Tonder Taekwondo Academy in Norwood finished off their year competing at the American Taekwondo Association South African National Championships in Pretoria.
Eight students of the academy participated in the championships on 6 October and collectively won 39 medals, including 18 gold. The academy also saw 15 students take part in the Family Festival on 8 October which marks the start of the tournament year for 2018. The students took home 24 medals.
Head of the academy Andre van Tonder said, “Once again our students performed spectacularly and made me very proud. What an incredible end to Andre van Tonder Academy’s tournament year.”
The academy will host a special prize-giving for their students on 26 November at their studio in Norwood.
“While I teach around 150 students overall, only 40 compete in these tournaments.”
He added that some students did not compete in tournaments so he believed in rewarding these students on their progress with an end of year prize-giving.
