Footballers wanted

Sandringham – Players must be dedicated and have a passion for the game.

Jacoba Academy will host football trials starting from 7 to 21 October at Sandringham High School and young aspiring footballers are invited.

The trials are open to all players from Gauteng, said the academy’s chairman Dimitri Athanasopoulos.

He added that the academy’s aim was to play in top-flight football in the country and players must be dedicated, have a passion for the game, be able to take instructions and work as a team.

“For the crucial ages of development, we accept everyone that is willing to learn. Kids from advantaged and previously disadvantaged areas are all welcome to join the academy,” said Athanasopoulos.

“For the ages 18 plus, we start looking a lot at the professional aspect of the player. How he conducts himself on and off the field as well as his playing ability. Quality instead of quantity.”

Athanasopoulos said they encouraged everyone to come trial and give it their best shot at the position they felt they have perfected. “Our coaches are highly qualified and can also identify if a player should try to play a different position. It’s all about bringing the best out of the players.

“We would love to encourage any aspiring coaches and experienced coaches who would like to get involved in Jacoba FC to please contact us. We would like to extend the invite to all coaches that want an opportunity in football to come down on the day.”

Jacoba Academy set a professional standard in everything they did, said Athanasopoulos, adding that they offered players every platform to excel.

The academy has an education centre where players get taught by highly qualified teachers and can get assistance with homework and exam preparations.

“We also offer our players medical care from doctors, chiropractors, sports scientists and sports nutritionists. We have a highly qualified technical team which consists of coaches and managers who understand the fundamentals of football development and are at a performance level ready to take the game to better heights.
